SIR PETER SCOTT, who founded the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and recruited The Duke of Edinburgh to the World Wildlife Fund, salutes his work: in Australia, ‘people remember him best for his success in helping to get a proposed holiday village moved from the only known breeding site of the noisy scrub-bird.

‘Once thought extinct, it was re-discovered in 1961 at Two People Bay. Its name came second among Prince Philip’s favourite bird names—the bare-faced go-away bird takes first place’ (October 9, 1975).
