The ‘not the royal academy’ exhibition is back for its 27th year, at the llewellyn alexander gallery, 124– 126, the Cut, london se1, from June 13 to august 19.

inspired by the salon des refusés held in Paris in the 19th century, the show features paintings that didn’t make it into the royal academy summer exhibition; every year, more than 12,000 works are submitted, but only 800 reach the ra’s walls (Country Life, May 31). those exhibited in Waterloo are all for sale and can be taken away upon purchase, creating space for further paintings as the show continues (020–7620 1322; www.llewellynalexander.com).
