Swallows do make a summer

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

FEWER and fewer swallows came over recent summers, but there was hope, for more went back each time. This year, we have none. Octogenarian neighbours never remember such an event. There are no bowl-shaped mud nests, no delightful fast, low and tightly turning aerobatics, no high-altitude hunts. Things are not as they should be. Dr Arthur E. Smith, Lancashire
