On the wings of a dove

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

WHEN considering the decline of the turtle dove (Town & Country, May 24), the RSPB reverts to its default setting by blaming agriculture for the loss of food due to changes in the farmed landscape. This completely ignores the huge success of the collared dove, a species that arrived only 60 years ago, but is now universal and estimated to number about two million birds, despite having similar dietary needs. The collared dove, however, doesn’t migrate to Africa across the Mediterranean for the winter. Antony Holyoak, Warwickshire
