If you go down to the woods today
Leviathanof the Nevill WoodHolt estateis situatedin Leicestershire.at the edge Since 2005, the villagers of Melbourne have planted more than 5,000 trees here, with help from the Woodland Trust. Bryan Smith and his wife, Laurie, have lived in the village for most of their lives and organise the planting days—they have seen wildlife thrive in the wood over the years.
‘There are skylarks, barn owls, little owls and gold finches, it’s fantastic,’ enthuses Bryan. ‘There are also foxes, badgers and hares plus lots of wildflowers. The saplings—all British native broadleaf trees—were chosen to give year-round colour and are part of the free tree packs for community groups available from the Woodland Trust.’
