Return of an NGS favourite
THE gardens at Willaston Grange, in Willaston, Cheshire, will be open to the public under the NGS for the first time in 20 years. In the past, it had been a firm fixture of the NGS Cheshire calendar, having been open continually for 30 years, but a long pause followed—until the current owners, Anita and Mark Mitchell, decided to revive the tradition.
‘When we bought the house in April 2009, it was in a state of disrepair, with no roof or windows and a jungle of a garden,’ says Mrs Mitchell. Having now completed the restoration work, the Mitchells felt it was time to welcome new visitors. Garden enthusiasts can expect to tour ‘six acres filled with mature trees, herbaceous borders and vegetable gardens, plus a small lake and a magical tree house’.
Willaston Grange will be open on Saturday, June 24, from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is £5 (children free), with afternoon tea and live music awaiting visitors. The address is Willaston Grange, Hadlow Road, Willaston, Neston, Cheshire, CH64 2UN (www.ngs.org.uk).
