On the money

Country Life Every Week - - Town & Country -

TO coincide with the September launch of the new £10 note, which will feature Jane Austen, the Bank of England Museum in Threadneedle Street, London EC2, has a new exhibition, ‘Stories from the City: The Bank of England in Literature’ (July 18 to early 2018).

The show tracks the bank’s literary connections over the past three centuries, relating to the lives and works of Dickens, Dr Johnson, George Eliot and many others, and also touches on the moments in which the institution has been woven into works of fiction.

In addition, a new Banknote Gallery tells the story of our finances, from the paper money that was originally mistrusted to the new technologically sophisticated (and controversial) polymer notes.
