Tethering the nest

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

IN response to ‘Better late than never’, the falling nest can be sorted out (Letters, July 12). I opened a window, against which I had forgotten house martins had a nest, and it plummeted to the floor, scattering gollies as it fell. I phoned my father, an accomplished countryman, and he advised screwing a plastic plant pot sideways onto the wall or window ledge near where the nest had been, carefully putting nest and gollies in and then leaving well alone. I’m delighted to say that all five baby birds fledged and flew in due course. Julia Drinkhall, by email
