Garlic snail

Country Life Every Week - - My Favourite Painting Magnus Linklater -

(Oxychilus alliarius) Despite its name, this small species is not one for the gourmet, however, it does emit a garlic-like smell when handled. A fungi and rotting-vegetation specialist, it likes compost bins and is often abundant in leaf litter. Its shell is pale, yellow-brown and glossy, although the snail itself is characteristically dark blue-grey
