Olympian bids to save his ride

Country Life Every Week - - TOWN & COUNTRY -

Event rider Jonty evans has launched a crowd-funding campaign in the hope of raising £500,000 to buy his Olympic partner, Cooley Rorkes Drift (right).

the gelding was bought by Fiona elliot at the Monart/ Going For Gold Sale in Ireland in 2010. Jonty has produced ‘Art’ since he was a five year old, racking up numerous top results, including finishing ninth in Rio as the highest-placed Irish combination.

‘the success that Art and I have achieved has not gone unnoticed and there have been some huge offers made. His owners have a young family and I understand their need to accept an offer,’ says Mr evans, who lives in Gloucestershire

In a race against time to secure his ride ahead of next month’s european Championships in Poland, Mr evans hopes that his ‘horse of a lifetime’ will become ‘the People’s Horse’.

the campaign has raised just under £105,000 so far. You can donate at www.jontyandart.com Agnes Stamp
