Sail away with me

Country Life Every Week - - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR -

IREALLY enjoyed Octavia Pollock’s article ‘We did mean to go to sea’ (July 12), which brought back happy memories of reading the book myself as a small boy. At about that time, the BBC had a series on Childrens’ Hour called The Green Sailors with a wonderful signature tune—it seemed to embody everything about small boats and the sea.

Much later in life, aged 31, I bought a Mirror dinghy named Flippa and, from there, I went to a couple of Finns, followed by a Wayfarer, until, 10 years ago, I purchased a Tideway. A friend took this picture of me sailing it last year in Bosham Creek—it is every inch a Swallows and Amazons boat. Timothy Salter, Hampshire
