HAVING never read COUNTRY LIFE before, I’m rather disappointed at myself for waiting so long. It reads like a conversation between my father and I, covering topics large and small and reigniting a saudade I had forgotten was there. I loved your Best of Britain number (July 5) covering the Downton Abbey effect, Agatha Christie, country-house style and the Pony Club, to name but a few things.
Being British has, in the every day running of things, become synonymous with rebellion. Reading through some of these articles, my patriotism has returned and I am proud to say the British still have an attitude of rebellion and reinvention, one I hope we will continue to prize as we have given so much to the world.
