Gin can save the world
ANEW, ethical British gin has won Gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, just four months after launching. Handcrafted in small batches at the Blackdown Distillery in West Sussex, One Gin contains nine botanicals from around the world and one local one—fresh sage from a nearby forest. It makes an excellent gin and tonic, complemented by a slice of apple. It’s produced by ethical brand One Drinks, which sells a number of juices and botanically infused spring water and whose profits sustain water projects in Africa. Since 2005, One has raised more than £15 million and changed the lives of three million people; the aim is to reach £20 million by 2020. £37.95 per litre, Harvey Nichols, World Duty Free stores and leading national wholesalers (www.thespiritofone.com).
