Horticultural aide memoire Collect seeds

Country Life Every Week - - In The Garden -

It’s well worth while collecting the seed of certain garden plants and late summer is a good time to do it. As a general principle, it’s better to collect seeds from species rather than hybrids, as the former are more likely to come true. Decide your victims and step forth with a brown-paper bag labelled with plant name and date. Carefully place it over the seedhead, cut the stem and invert the lot. Return to the potting shed and separate seed from extraneous matter, then seal the bag and add it to the box with the others. SCD
