THe collection of one of the most important and artistic families of the past century will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s in london on September 27. Casting light onto the private world of the Yeats family —artist John Butler Yeats and his children, poet w. B. Yeats, embroidery designer lily, printing-press pioneer lolly and artist Jack—the sale includes paintings, letters, diaries, photographs and hand-decorated furniture. There are more than 220 lots and there will be an exhibition in Dublin (September 14–16) before the sale.
Painted in 1954, The Runaway Horse (above) is the most valuable of the 35 artworks by Jack Yeats in the auction (£150,000–£250,000); equally colourful, one of his palettes (right) is estimated at £200–300.
