THe col­lec­tion of one of the most im­por­tant and artis­tic fam­i­lies of the past cen­tury will go un­der the ham­mer at Sotheby’s in london on Septem­ber 27. Cast­ing light onto the pri­vate world of the Yeats fam­ily —artist John But­ler Yeats and his chil­dren, poet w. B. Yeats, em­broi­dery de­signer lily, print­ing-press pi­o­neer lolly and artist Jack—the sale in­cludes paint­ings, let­ters, di­aries, pho­to­graphs and hand-dec­o­rated fur­ni­ture. There are more than 220 lots and there will be an ex­hi­bi­tion in Dublin (Septem­ber 14–16) be­fore the sale.

Painted in 1954, The Run­away Horse (above) is the most valu­able of the 35 art­works by Jack Yeats in the auc­tion (£150,000–£250,000); equally colour­ful, one of his pal­ettes (right) is es­ti­mated at £200–300.
