About to catch fire

Country Life Every Week - - Town & Country -

BANK-HOLIDAY sunshine aside, our slightly washout August could do wonders for autumn displays, claims the Forestry Commission. The warm, dry spring will have slowed down trees’ sugar production, which is what creates the russet colours, says the Met Office, but the wet summer has allowed them to catch up. Slightly later than usual, there will be a crescendo of colour in the second half of October and maples will start the season, followed by beeches and oaks giving us a ‘second autumn’ in November.
