A simple make... CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN
Mini buckets hung together that are filled with small gifts and sweet treats create a jolly and original advent calendar that can be used every year
1 Gather together 24 or 25 mini buckets, which are available from Hobbycraft (hobbycraft.co.uk).
2 Cut squares of paper, plain or patterned – enough for the number of buckets you have – and add a number to each piece. Use a pen to write out the numbers freehand; alternatively, use a stencil or numbered stamps. Stick in place on the front of each bucket using tape or strong glue.
3 Cut out small pieces of decorative fabric or paper using pinking shears, to push inside each bucket to help hide the treat. Ensure the piece of fabric or paper gathers at the top, higher than the rim of the bucket.
4 Tie the bucket handles in a random order to a length of ribbon at regular intervals. For a similar gingham design, try Jane Means (janemeans.com). The length of your rows can be tailored to suit the area where you wish to hang them – the rows shown here each hold three buckets.
5 Hang in place and add a gift to each bucket.
