Follow our guide to using summer sorbet shades to create a vibrant decorating palette for your home

Colour has the ability to affect your mood, with different hues altering how you feel. Keeping this in mind when decorating makes choosing the right shade very important, especially if they are strong and vibrant. Bold colours can have a surprising effect when edited carefully and can bring real energy to a room. Pretty pastel shades that mimic ice-cream tones have a calm feel, while zesty lemon yellow, along with other fruity shades such as berry and watermelon that are synonymous with summer, can have an uplifting result. These work best as accents – on one wall, on a painted chair frame or, as a temporary display, in a bunch of seasonal flowers. Use sparingly, limiting the number of shades to avoid a restless scheme, and contrast splashes of solid colour against fresh white.
