Call for pres­sure on pes­ti­cides

A re­port has re­vealed that school chil­dren’s fruit and veg con­tains residues of 123 pes­ti­cides. Pes­ti­cide Ac­tion Net­work UK says this is more than is found in main­stream pro­duce on su­per­mar­ket shelves. It calls for pres­sure on the Gov­ern­ment to in­vest in child health and cre­ate a bet­ter pub­lic pro­cure­ment pol­icy.

Mi­croplas­tic con­tam­i­na­tion has been found in tap wa­ter in coun­tries around the world, lead­ing to calls for ur­gent re­search on the im­pli­ca­tions for health. The find­ings were made by sci­en­tists in an in­ves­ti­ga­tion by Orb Me­dia. Over­all, 83% of the sam­ples were con­tam­i­nated with plas­tic fi­bres.

Ad­vance of ro­bots

Agri­cul­ture is a lead­ing adopter of ro­bot tech­nol­ogy, ac­cord­ing to a re­port. Mar­ket re­search com­pany IDTechEx said agri­cul­ture is be­ing ‘qui­etly re­formed’ by new ro­bot­ics. The re­port con­sid­ers the evo­lu­tion and the long-term im­pact of au­tonomous mo­bil­ity in farm ve­hi­cles.

Sheep race can­celled

A fes­ti­val has can­celled a race us­ing real sheep af­ter a pe­ti­tion forced or­gan­is­ers to change the event. Llan­dovery Sheep Fes­ti­val in Car­marthen­shire was billed as ‘the best woolly fun you’ll have this year’. But a pe­ti­tion op­pos­ing the race at­tracted more than 60,000 sig­na­tures.
