AGRICULTURE ‘COULD BE SACRIFICED’

Country Smallholding - - Welcome -

A right wing think tank suggests British agriculture could be sacrificed in the interest of free trade after Brexit.

The report, from the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA), suggests the UK should adopt universal free trade following its withdrawal from the EU – a suggestion completely contrary to what farmers’ leaders have been seeking.

The NFU and other farmers’ groups all want continued access to the EU single market and are concerned that completely free trade with countries outside the EU could leave British producers unable to compete with imports produced to lower standards.
