Nesus Half-Zip

-

RRP: £50 Target price: £40 Luxuriously soft, the Nesus is a versatile base layer that’s as much a pleasure to fondle between your fingertips as it is to wear on the hill. Made from 100% merino wool, its fine fibres are naturally odour resistant, making this a great choice of base layer for long trips away in remote locations, when you might have to stretch out its use over a few days between washes. Being of a thicker weave compared to other shirts we’re reviewing, it’s also a good layer for year-round use, providing a decent under layer come winter. The flipside of this heavyweight merino’s insulating excellence is that it did feel clammy in hot conditions, and didn’t wick moisture as well as the synthetic layers I was testing, even though retaining moisture had a slight cooling effect. The Nesus has a long, tight and body-hugging fit, with coverstitched seams and no labels to stop chafing. As a consequence, the material didn’t have the irritating habit of riding up as others often do. Though I would probably put it aside for winter and the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn, the Nesus is still an excellent performer for mountain walks. PT
