Tried and tested for six months or more…
CW Writer Philip Thomas put Fjällräven’s Abisko Lite
Trousers (£ 160) to the test over the last 10 months. Yes, you read that right… how can a pair of trousers be worth £160 (the price of a decent compact camera)? Well after multiple outings in these, I’m willing to fight their corner. The attention to detail Fjällräven have laboured upon the Abisko Lites is exceptional; from the materials to the tailoring, and neat features like the bootlace hooks and adjustable straps in the hems. The Swedish firm are renowned for their heavy-duty, uncompromising garments, but these are a lightweight variant designed for milder climes, complete with ventilation zips for your thighs. Fjällräven’s durable and wax-able (for water resistance) G-1000 Lite fabric is combined with stretchier panels and gussets to give uninhibited movement over steep, uneven terrain. And when I strayed off-trail in the Dales and Lakes, their robustness proved the perfect antidote to coarse bracken and heather. Yes they’re expensive; but they’re an investment, not an impulse buy. www.fjallraven.co.uk
