“How come we’ve never been here before? I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place!” Finding a great new place to walk can be such a thrill, (so much so CW started a magazine about it 30 years ago!), but to discover an absolute beauty practically on your doorstep takes this to another level. And so it was with Southwick Wood in Northamptonshire – a 20 minute drive from home, the most magnificent carpet of bluebells I’ve ever seen, and, on a bank holiday weekend, hardly a soul to disturb the tranquility. Blissfully unaware of this gorgeous wood until it was featured in CW’s April issue, I’d vowed to pay a visit as soon as my inside source (aka features editor Jenny), tipped me off that the bluebells were in full bloom. And it didn’t disappoint. Even the first flurries of blue on the fringes of the wood had us stopping to take photos, but the deeper in we went, the bluer and better it got. Thanks for sharing, Jenny!

Note to self: You don’t have to travel for hours to find amazing places to walk.
