GET­TING HERE

Road­side park­ing in Knock (CA16 6DH) lies 10 min­utes drive via coun­try lanes from the A66, and a fur­ther 20 min­utes from the M6.

WHERE TO EAT

Find shel­ter from the weather at The Stag Inn in Dufton (017683 51608; www.thestag­dufton.co.uk), where you can treat your­self to post-walk pub clas­sics like braised lamb shoul­der or West­mor­land sausage and mash (mains from £8.95). You could also pop into Dufton’s Post Box Pantry tea­room for some­thing lighter.
