Microrib Stowaway

Country Walking Magazine (UK) - - Gear -

RRP £70 Target price £70 Fleeces don’t have to be technical pieces of gear to do their job, but technology can at least enhance performance, and that’s the case with this particular fleece. Rohan use a special ‘needle-out’ knitting technique to weave together the Microrib Stowaway and the resulting ribbed texture is meant to make it lighter, more breathable, quicker to dry and easier to pack. I can’t say that I noticed anything exceptional about its packability and its weight is about average for a fleece. But it did cope slightly better than some when I went into overheat half way up a stubborn Welsh hillside, wicking away excess moisture and keeping me slightly fresher if not exactly cool. I also found the Stowaway quick to dry when it got a lashing of unexpected rain. There are a couple of bonus features as well – thumb loops and an internal pocket, which is designed more for stowing away the jacket than for holding valuables. The jacket isn’t as welltailored as, for instance, the Sprayway or Fjallraven fleeces, and it isn’t the most stylish either, though that is admittedly a rare feature in a fleece. RB
