Boe

RRP £75 Target Price £60 I felt like I’d signed up to NASA when I pulled on this space age top from German brand Vaude. There’s something about this slim-fitting and super stretchy fleece, with its smooth outer texture, that feels like it was engineered in a laboratory. ‘Technical’ is the word that springs to mind and it befits the price tag. It’s not the softest and cuddliest top in this line-up, but it’s a fleece that’s been refined for optimum performance in the toughest conditions. On the inside, the fine, light insulation is a grid pattern of tufty squares and thin furrows, letting the fleece ‘breathe’ better when your body’s working hard. A half-zip lets you vent excess heat on uphill legs, which (covered by flap underneath) is quickly closed when you reach wind-blasted mountain tops. The round neck and stretchy cuffs also do a fantastic job of sealing in heat when needed. Elastane mixed with polyester gives the Boe its stretch, letting me move freely, whether simply over stiles or hands-on scrambly terrain. Longer hem and arms, allows for reaching. A nifty chest pocket is a neat addition to this mountain maestro. PT
