PÁRAMO

Ostro

Country Walking Magazine (UK) - - Gear -

RRP £125 Target Price £100 If smartphones have supplanted ordinary phones, then the Ostro (women’s version Alize) is a ‘smartfleece’. But as with the latest iPhone, you pay a big premium for Páramo’s innovation, design and quality. To touch (or rather stroke), the Ostro is ‘new flannel’ soft and this furry fabric does more than just feel nice. It was developed by Nikwax to be water repellent and wind resistant – the latter property being something I was especially grateful of on a walk across the blustery Kent Downs. The Ostro’s head-hugging hood (with asymmetrically aligned zipper) becomes a balaclava when pulled tight, sealing out the wind with an opening only big enough to see out of (though this leaves an awkward flap when not fully zipped). With its athletic fit and longer arms, this is a light and versatile fleece for optimum mobility and comfort in the extremes, designed to work in combo with the Ostro windproof. It has two handwarmer pockets, plus a big chest pocket hidden inside. And as with all Páramo kit, it boasts superb eco and ethical credentials. PT
