A family firm based in Austria, Komperdell aren’t the most highprofile pole brand in the UK but we really like their work, particularly as their poles come with a threeyear service guarantee. The Hikemaster is a superb all-rounder with flick-locks and a chunky, ergonomic handle. For a more advanced option, consider the Stiletto: Z-folding poles with a push-button in the handle (below) that lets you adjust each pole’s height on the go. That’s unique; all other poles have to be adjusted via the stem. Cleverly, the button won’t work if you are already putting pressure on the pole (i.e. it’s in use), so it’s safe on the move. www.firstascent.co.uk
