Going solo

-

I live in Lancaster so well situated for the Lakes, Dales or the Howgills and walk lots with my U3A friends, so when lockdown began I was upset to say the least. But since I resorted to lone walking in my local area, what a joyful revelation it has been. I’ve discovered new paths, seen winter blossom into a glorious spring, listened to birdsong and rediscovered the amazing beauty of the area that I live in, as well as saving a lot of money on travelling. Lone walking also means that I can go at my own pace as the mood takes me, I can stop to take photographs or just look at the view without fear of holding anybody up, I can stop for a drink or snack when I feel like it and I also have time for quiet contemplation.

I am really missing all my friends and looking forward to being able to walk with them again, but at the same time I will not forget to appreciate all that I have just a short walk from home. Pauline Pegden, Lancaster
