Longevity
Inevitably, some products will last longer than others. Good aftercare will help, but some products are just designed and built (and priced) to last longer (the “you get what you pay for” argument). It’s not a given of course; premium products can still fail, but hopefully less often, and only after substantial use. By that rationale, cheaper kit may not last as long, or may need more TLC to keep it healthy. But if fits you, works well enough for where you want to go, and inspires you to get out more, then a cheaper item can still be worth its weight in gold. And you can always use your time in a cheaper product to work out what your priorities and preferences really are, ready for the big purchase when you know what’s what. When that happens, a premium product that completely matches your needs will feel really special – and hopefully last for years.
