MOUNT STEWART RENEWED

Countryfile Magazine - - Month In The Country -

Reopening after a three-year, £8 million renovation, the National Trust’s flagship property in Northern Ireland has been returned to “its former glory, showcasing the history of this special place and offering fascinating insight into the Stewart family,” says manager Jon Kerr. In particular, there are many objects and documents relating to Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh (died 1822) – an intriguing and hugely controversial statesman of the early 19th century. The gardens have been carefully replanted to reflect the extraordinary vision of Edith, Marchioness of Londonderry (1878-1959). www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mount-stewart/
