WILL CUTS TO FEED-IN TARIFFS HAVE AN IMPACT?

Feed-in tariffs enable generators of solar energy to sell surplus electricity to the national grid. The government proposes cuts of up to 87% in solar payments, saying the tariffs have served their purpose by subsidising the industry so it could establish itself in the energy market. This is opposed by RenewableUK and the Solar Trade Association.“The feed-in tariff provides a lifeline to the rural economy,” said Gemma Grimes of Renewable UK. “It allows farmers and small businesses to diversify their income and save on electricity bills. The government risks consigning this great work to the past.”
