At One with nature

This spring, enjoy Orkney’s long days and short nights and explore the unspoilt natural landscapes of these islands. There is astounding geology everywhere, from towering cliffs to remarkable sea stacks. Stroll to the Castle of Yesnaby in Sandwick or see Orkney’s most famous landmark, the 450ft Old Man of Hoy. Walk along white sands at the Bay of Skaill, by the Neolithic village of Skara Brae or explore rockpools by the causeway at the tidal island of Brough of Birsay and discover the remains of a Viking Age settlement and 12th-century monastery. An abundance of wildlife can be found on 13 RSPB nature reserves. From the nesting seabirds on Marwick Head cliffs to the rare sight of ‘sky-dancing’ hen harriers, bird calls can be heard wherever you travel.
