THIS is the shocking aftermath of a suspected arson attack when yobs torched an elderly man’s car on his own drive.

Two cars were left burnt out after the attack yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the property in Back Lane in Eastern Green around 4pm to find two vehicles well ablaze.

These are now the remnants of what is left on the man’s drive.

The fire was so ferocious it has left debris spreading across the front path and drive, and spread to neighbouring trees.

A spokesman from Canley Fire Station said: “We were called yesterday to a house where vehicles were on fire on a drive.

“The elderly man who lives in the relatively run down hour wasn’t in at the time, so it was a very lucky escape for him.

“We believe the fire has been started by a group of youths.

“The fire had spread from the cars and to the trees at the side of the front drive.”

Fire crews from Canley and Coventry Central were there for several hours tackling the blaze. The community of Eastern Green have now offered to come together to help clear-up the drive leading up to the house, which is occupied by an elderly man living on his own.

The smoke had reportedly been seen from the A45 a few miles away.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: “I can confirm we are investigating an arson which occurred between 3:30 and 3:55pm yesterday (19 April). “Two cars were set alight. “Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.”
