NIGEL HEATH used OS Landranger maps for this walk, and the Macmillan Way Association’s Cross Britain Way guidebook.

To make winter walking easier, Nigel diverted from the official route at Belvoir Castle to reach the village of Redmile, then followed the Grantham Canal to rejoin the Way at Hickling.

He stayed at Peacock Farm in Redmile (01949 842 475), The Guest House, Remstone (01509 881 886), Breedon Hall, Breedon on the Hill (01332 864 935) and The Royal Hotel in Ashby-de-la-Zouch (01530 412 833).
