Raise a glass as Oktoberfest comes to Coventry
GET SET TO RAISE YOUR STEINS! OKTOBERFEST IS COMING TO COVENTRY
A HUGE beer tent will be opening up in Coventry to celebrate Oktoberfest for one weekend only.
The celebrations feature Bavarian beer - and lots of it - as well as traditional music and dancing.
Beer will be served in giant two-pint steins and if you need to line your stomach you can get your hands on bratwurst, pretzels and more.
Live oompah bands will be providing the music, which will have you foot stomping and table bashing into the night.
Guests are encouraged to dress up in traditional gear which includes lederhosen for the guys and dirndl dresses for the girls. Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer and folk festival.
It traditionally takes place in Munich, Germany from mid September and lasts 18 days.
The event has attracted an international following and this year 5.9 million people descended on Munich to attend while other cities across the world hold Oktoberfest style celebrations based on the Munich event.
It began in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Sace-Hildburghausen.
The royal newlyweds deemed the party so great that they wanted to repeat it every year and so Oktoberfest has been celebrated in Munich every year since.
The tent will be on Hearsall Common on Canley Road on Friday, October 19, at 6pm and Saturday, October 20 at 12pm and 6pm.
