Stage winner: Dylan Groenwegen (Ned) Lottonl-jumbo Hemel Hempstead > Cheltenham, 185.1km
It took nearly a week but a full-blooded bike race finally erupted on a wet and lumpy run across the Cotswolds. Multiple attempts to go clear were neutralised by a motivated peloton sensing the overall win hanging in the balance — Boom had around 20 seconds in hand over a raft of potential winners at the start of the day.
The final climb saw a flurry of attacks from riders including Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky), James Shaw (Lotto-soudal), and Jonathan Mcevoy (Madison-genesis). A group of four, including possible overall winner Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) escaped but were brought back and a bunch sprint ensued. Groenewegen timed it just right to come past Caleb Ewan, who was given a textbook lead-out, for the win. Race leader: Lars Boom (Ned) Lottonl-jumbo
