Former British junior road race champion Jacob Vaughan has signed for Lotto-soudal’s U23 development squad next year.

Vaughan, who has won seven junior races across Europe this season, will follow in the footsteps of James Shaw, who rode for the squad before joining the Worldtour team this season.

The 18-year-old said he had offers from other Belgian teams, two French teams and Team Wiggins but had decided to join Lottosoudal’s UCI Continental-level set-up. “It was predominantly down to their race

calendar,” he said. “It’s also a world class set-up. I think my calendar will be about half U23 and half adult races.

“I think next year is predominately about my development, I’m not expecting to get any major big results. I’d like to perform well and see how I go.”
