Just three days after win­ning the Tour du Gé­vau­dan, his first GC vic­tory, Guil­laume Martin (Wan­ty­groupe Gobert) won stage two of the Giro della Toscana and with it claimed over­all suc­cess. Bri­ton Steve Cum­mings won stage one.

Satur­day, Septem­ber 30

An­dré Greipel ended al­most five months of frus­tra­tions by win­ning the Om­loop Eurometropool race in Bel­gium, his first vic­tory since stage two of the Giro d’italia. The Lotto-soudal rider beat Bert van Ler­berghe (Sport Vlaan­deren­baloise) in a bunch sprint.

Satur­day, Septem­ber 30

Gio­vanni Vis­conti con­tin­ued his good late sea­son form to win the Giro dell’emilia race in Italy, 12 sec­onds ahead of his Bahrain­merida team-mate Vin­cenzo Nibali. The top 10 of the moun­tain­ous race fea­tured a num­ber of rid­ers who could win Il Lom­bar­dia, in­clud­ing Rigob­erto Urán (Can­non­dale­dra­pac) and Thibaut Pinot (FDJ).

At the ripe old age of 46, Da­vide Re­bellin — three-time win­ner of Flèche Wal­lonne — topped the GC at the In­ter­na­tional Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen in In­done­sia. The Ital­ian won stage one and rode to fourth on stage three to ce­ment his vic­tory.

Kazakh rider Alexey Lut­senko won his home race, the Tour of Al­maty, for the fourth suc­ces­sive year, win­ning the open­ing stage and fin­ish­ing sec­ond be­hind As­tana team-mate Jakob Fuglsang on stage two.

Christophe La­porte rode solo ahead of the field to win the 46th edi­tion of the Tour de Vendée, the Cofidis rider fin­ish­ing 20 sec­onds in front of the chas­ing pack. The race was the fi­nal round of the Coupe de France, won over­all by Lau­rent Pi­chon of For­tu­neo-os­caro.

Sun­day, October 1

Luis Leon Sanchez (As­tana) held off the sprint­ers to win the 22nd edi­tion of the GP Bruno Beghelli, his first win since early April 2016. Sonny Col­brelli (Bahrain-merida) was the fastest in the bunch sprint for sec­ond place, six sec­onds shy of Sanchez.
