Is the law dif­fer­ent in France? I’ve just re­turned from a cy­cling trip in ru­ral France. I had no is­sues at all with French driv­ers, who gave a wide berth to cy­clists, even on nar­row roads (The only is­sues I had were with a cou­ple of Brits!).

Some­one told me that un­der French law, driv­ers who col­lide with cy­clists are as­sumed to be in the wrong un­less they can prove oth­er­wise.

If this is true, per­haps we need a sim­i­lar law here in the UK — es­pe­cially af­ter some of the odd le­gal opin­ions re­cently seen in
