‘Sharpen your focus’

Cycling Weekly - - Fitness - Ali Slater, Jlt-condor

“As the race season approaches, my training and focus slowly adapt and i begin working on the specific areas that i’ve identified with my coach at the end of the previous year.

“initially my training is fairly low intensity; it’s more about time on the bike, building general fitness and including some core exercises and stretches to help me adapt to the training and avoid injury. it’s fairly relaxed from a mental perspective, a good chance for social riding, then i gradually include more intensity as my fitness builds, including shorter and sharper efforts as i look to get myself ready to race.

“These efforts mean more time riding on my own and i find myself looking forward to the upcoming season and getting more serious about diet and rest. Finally, with about a week to go, i’ll look to back off the training and ensure i’m fatigue-free. At this point, i’m fully focused on the races and excited to get going with the team again.”
