Amazing to have three British riders winning all three Grand Tours. It’s made even more special given that Simon Yates has won the Vuelta and broken the Sky stranglehold. While I take nothing away from Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome, we all know the boring approach Sky use of shutting down races, with which, an obsessed Dave Brailsford, with his marginal gains ethos, has suffocated the Grand Tours.

Yates has won with an attacking approach, daring, tactical skill and a passion for what cycling is all about, like in the days pre-sky. In Matt White they have the total opposite to Brailsford, a man who likes to win, but who is tactically shrewder and gets results by adopting a more aggressive and pro-active approach.

Whereas Froome’s age is catching up with him and Thomas is sometimes erratic, I believe Yates can dominate for a number of years, which will be great for racing fans.

Also, don’t underestimate Adam — this will give him the confidence to move to greater heights.
