the Cervélo R5 is one of my favourite bikes and this bike has inherited its dna. the handling of the S5 mirrors the razor-sharp handling of the R5, making it one of the best-descending aero bikes i’ve ridden. the dropped bottom bracket makes it feel like you’re sitting in the bike rather than on top of it. it’s easy to flip it over in corners and lean into them and the extended fork trail means the bike always holds its line. despite the rise of the stem, the Cervélo S5 is an aggressive bike, and riding with the bars slammed, i could feel it in my back after the 90 or so kilometres we rode around girona. it’s not uncomfortable, just aggressive, but the ride is compliant, no doubt helped by the wider tyres. But how easy will it be to live with? You’ll have to watch this space for a long-term review.
