he calibre of women’s cycling at both professional and amateur level has long been on a par with men’s, yet appropriate quality women’s-specific kit is still thin on the ground. With the release of its spring/ summer 2017 line, however, Giro is broadening its range of women’s apparel.

‘Nearly everyone at Giro rides a bike so there’s a constant source of inspiration from current bike culture,’ says Stuart Hayes, brand manager for Giro at UK distributor Zyrofisher. ‘Women are an integral part of the design and development teams, so their insight into what women require nowadays from both a fit and style perspective is fundamental to what ends up in the product line.’

This season’s range contains a number of key items. The Ember helmet is the little sister to the range-topping Synthe, comes in a women-specific compact shape and is ‘ponytail-compatible’; the Chrono Expert jersey is lightweight and tailored to a woman’s body shape; and the Raes Techlace shoes are the equivalent design and quality to the men’s Sentrie Techlace, except in women’s sizes.
