Chaves wins the Tour de l’avenir yel­low jer­sey af­ter tak­ing 24 sec­onds off for­mer leader David Boily in the fi­nal stage.

17TH FEB 2013

Chaves crashes at the Tro­feo Laigueglia, suf­fer­ing frac­tures in his col­lar­bone, skull, cheek­bone, ribs and mi­nor brain bleed­ing.

18TH OCT 2013

Orica-greenedge (now Mitchel­ton-scott) an­nounce that the team has signed Chaves on a two-year deal.

23RD AUG 2015

The Colom­bian claims his first in­di­vid­ual Grand Tour stage win at the Vuelta a Es­paña, mov­ing briefly into the red jer­sey, af­ter out­last­ing Tom Du­moulin and Ni­cholas Roche on a pun­ish­ing climb.

A third place fin­ish in Risoul moves Chaves into the Giro d’italia pink jer­sey with just two stages re­main­ing, po­si­tion­ing Mitchel­tonS­cott for their first ever Grand Tour general clas­si­fi­ca­tion vic­tory.

An at­tack from Vin­cenzo Nibali on a gru­elling climb drops Chaves and sees him lose the pink jer­sey lead. In a touch­ing mo­ment, Chaves’s par­ents are the first to con­grat­u­late Nibali.

Chaves wins Il Lom­bar­dia in a three­rider sprint, be­com­ing the first Colom­bian to win a Mon­u­ment.

JULY 2017

Af­ter an in­jury dis­rupted lead-up, and a per­sonal tragedy in the first week, Chaves strug­gles in his de­but Tour de France – ul­ti­mately fin­ish­ing 62nd.

At­tempt­ing to chase down the race leader at the Giro dell’emilia, Chaves loses con­trol on a bend and ends his sea­son pre­ma­turely.
