Chaves crashes at the Trofeo Laigueglia, suffering fractures in his collarbone, skull, cheekbone, ribs and minor brain bleeding.

Orica-greenedge (now Mitchelton-scott) announce that the team has signed Chaves on a two-year deal.

The Colombian claims his first individual Grand Tour stage win at the Vuelta a España, moving briefly into the red jersey, after outlasting Tom Dumoulin and Nicholas Roche on a punishing climb.

A third place finish in Risoul moves Chaves into the Giro d’italia pink jersey with just two stages remaining, positioning MitcheltonScott for their first ever Grand Tour general classification victory.

An attack from Vincenzo Nibali on a gruelling climb drops Chaves and sees him lose the pink jersey lead. In a touching moment, Chaves’s parents are the first to congratulate Nibali.

Chaves wins Il Lombardia in a threerider sprint, becoming the first Colombian to win a Monument.
After an injury disrupted lead-up, and a personal tragedy in the first week, Chaves struggles in his debut Tour de France – ultimately finishing 62nd.

Attempting to chase down the race leader at the Giro dell’emilia, Chaves loses control on a bend and ends his season prematurely.
