Pupils un­veil mo­saic trib­ute to WWI sol­diers

PUPILS at an Aber­dare school cre­ated mo­saic mu­rals to com­mem­o­rate the First World War.

A num­ber of Year Nine pupils at Aber­dare Com­mu­nity School cre­ated three large mu­rals over a num­ber of months.

Stu­dents de­cided to cre­ate the mo­saics af­ter re­ceiv­ing a Welsh Gov­ern­ment grant called Re­mem­ber­ing the First World War.

Be­tween June and Septem­ber 2017, the teams of pupils worked on the project dur­ing their lessons and lunch breaks.

A state­ment from the school said: “The ded­i­ca­tion, ma­tu­rity and com­pas­sion they showed dur­ing the project was hum­bling to be­hold.

“How­ever, we could not have com­pleted the project without the sup­port of our won­der­ful tech­ni­cians who have ded­i­cated count­less hours to per­fect­ing the mo­saics fur­ther.”

Aber­dare com­pany D&R Tiles do­nated mo­saic tiles to the school for the project.
