Armed po­lice on train

ARMED of­fi­cers stopped a train in Moun­tain Ash as they searched for a man who was act­ing sus­pi­ciously.

South Wales Po­lice said they re­ceived re­ports of a man “act­ing sus­pi­ciously” in the Broad­way area of Pon­typridd at 7pm on Wed­nes­day, March 28.

The 7.12pm train from Pon­typridd to Aber­dare was then stopped at Moun­tain Ash rail­way sta­tion by armed of­fi­cers. Po­lice said on Tues­day that a 50 yea old man was ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent was re­leased with no fur­ther ac­tion.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent is not linked to ter­ror­ism and the train was stopped as part of an on­go­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Pas­sen­gers then had to get off the train as a pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sure.

No one match­ing the de­scrip­tion of the man was found on­board and the train con­tin­ued its jour­ney.
