ALAN’S TIP OF THE DAY:

Make a nursery bed for raising biennials from seed. Add compost, then sow foxgloves, Canterbury bells, Campanula pyramidalis and sweet Williams in short rows. Thin the seedlings out when they are big enough, then plant them out in autumn.
