Asher- Smith is setting the pace

- ROB MAUL

DINA ASHER- SMITH has set her sights on becoming the fi rst British woman to break the 100 metres 11- second barrier.

Asher- Smith, 19, broke the national record when she ran 11.02secs on Sunday as she fi nished second to Dutch star Dafne Schippers, who won in 10.94, at the FBK Games in Hengelo, Holland.

And Asher- Smith feels she can run even quicker because she said her second 100m of this season “wasn’t the perfect race”.

The world junior champion, who broke the old record of 11.05 set by Montel Douglas in 2008, said: “I have quite a few things to work on from that race, so that all points to me being able to replicate it and maybe do a bit better later in the season.

“The fact it wasn’t the perfect race is really good for me. That bodes well for going quicker. “It all went by in a bit of a blur. I remember fi nishing and I wasn’t completely happy with it.

“My start was all right, the end bit I felt I kind of tightened up and lost my form, which was a bit annoying.

“I wasn’t really expecting it. I knew that I was in good shape. I just went out there to execute my race and to run to the best of my possibilities.”
