Courageous whistleblower

DR Vladislav Rogozov was initially supported by the authorities when he made a private complaint about a Muslim surgeon’s refusal to remove her hijab in theatre. However, he has now been suspended by the Royal Hallamshire Hospital after speaking publicly about this incident and a number of other safety concerns he has raised.

He says he is not the only person to have worries but “no one dared to highlight this issue because they feared being accused of racism or intolerance”. Where have we heard that one before?

Without Dr Rogozov’s intervention that surgery would have gone ahead. And without his decision to speak publicly none of us would have been any the wiser. This courageous whistleblower deserves to be praised not punished.
